An amazing weekend .. and a Giveaway!

So my husband and I had the opportunity to attend a Marriage Retreat that was sponsored by The Colorado National Guard. If you or your spouse is in the National Guard I would suggest you check to see if they have Marriage Retreats in your area! This is the organization that put this one on Strong Bonds So check your state and see if they have one going on!

And remember - your marriage does NOT have to be in trouble to go to a Marriage Retreat! It is for enrichment of your marriage! And the tools you take away can be used in MANY aspects of your life!

So during this Marriage Retreat we were treated to a stay at the Vail Marriott Mountain Resort & Spa .. we were also lucky enough to have been put on orders so we were reimbursed travel and per Diem!

The program was amazing and was put on by this amazing Chaplin that was actually a Navy Chaplin and he is moving to the Colorado Army National Guard! The Retreat was based on the Book 12 hours to a great Marriage!

I was even able to get an extra copy of the book .. And I am going to give one away!

The timing was perfect for us as we were going on vacation the night we got home and we were going to be talking to my Husbands family about possibly moving from CO to ID and the techniques we learned helped reduce the stress immensely! You will LOVE this book .. If you do not win the giveaway you really should order the book! They have it available at Amazon!

OK So this is what you need to do to enter to win the book - Leave a comment with a positive memory from a relationship in your past or present! It can be a husband/wife; mom/child; Dad/Child; best friends; any type of relationship! I REALLY look forward to reading your comments! Please pass my link on to anyone you think may like to win the book .. and I will probably throw in some other freebies :)

I think we have so many negative things going on in the world today that some great positive stories will be inspirational!

My husband and I just went (in June) on our first vacation together since our honeymoon (8 years ago). We had the most wonderful time. It was awesome to be able to reconnect for a weekend and get away from everything. We had fun hiking and camping. We got to see the sunrise over the mountains which was so beautiful. I loved the weekend and didn't want to come home! I have a wonderful husband and friend.

Oh Deb, this is a great giveaway and you are so right, many times couples wait until they are in trouble to seek help. Seeking to keep your marriage stronger in the good times will help you through the not so good times. I would love to win the giveaway. Two years ago we were invited to a wedding in the Bahamas, we had not taken a trip alone since our honeymoon and I was not working. My hubby made sure he secured our flight and had his mom come down from Canada to watch the kids for a4 days. We arrived two days before the wedding and had a great time. For the last two years we have been teasing the couple to have an anniversary trip!lol. Thanks for hosting this giveaway.

This is great giveaway. Okay a past memory.... My oldest and I used to spend time together before bed. We would snuggle up in my bed and watch one of her favorite shows. It was kind of a mellowing out process. I always enjoyed our snuggle time. I have carried this over with my youngest now. Rather then watching a show on the couch, we go up stairs and snuggle in my bed to watch a show.

My son and I have breakfast together every morning before he goes to school. It's dark, and still quiet out, sometimes not much conversation, and definitely sleepy eyes, but there's something about that couple of minutes to talk about dreams from the night before, plans for the day...that feels special.

Deb, this is a great giveaway! I am so glad that you and Will had a good time at the retreat! A postive relationship is that everynight before bed my entire family sits down and says our prayers together. When my oldest was little we had a plate hanging on her wall (it was my husbands when he was little). This plate has the "Now I lay me down to sleep" prayer on it. I started reading that to my daughter and now that is the prayer we say every night before bed. My youngest is now getting to where she can say the entire thing! This is such a special time every night! Thanks for the giveaway!

Debbi that sounds so great! I think my man and I have a wonderful relationship with amazing open communication. One of my favorite memories (so far) is the night I was cooking dinner and his son was talking to me in the kitchen (as he always does) and he said, "I think it's so cool you and dad never fight." It's so great to hear a child say that, and feel like they are living in a happy, loving home!!

Great giveaway Deb. I think everyone can use this book and some point in time!! One of my fav memories is when we had no money, it was my bday and my mom kept the kids and we went to the park were we had our first date. My husband brought out coleman camp grill, coleman lanthern, one of our sons crib blankets to use as a tablecloth and hotdogs. He had bought one of those little 2 people cakes and we cooked the hotdogs there under the stars and talked. That was the best bday ever!!!!!

Where do I start? My ex and I could have used this a long time ago, but I'll say this about the man I'm with now.

We took our second trip to Vegas in 4 years. The trip was for business and the thing that helped our relationship was that I was included in the convention classes and my ideas, thoughts and knowledge was aknowledged and valued and put into action once we got back home.

That was a huge step in our relationship. The validation that my ideas are not only worthwhile, but also pertinent to the business made a huge boost in my own confidence, but also added value to the business.

My favorite memory is how me and my now DH spent one of his birthdays before we got married. His birthday is in April, and sometimes it can be quite chilly out. However, to celebrate his birthday one year, we went to a goochie grocery store in town, bought a bunch exotic munchies, cheeses and bread, brewed a thermos of coffee, and took a drive up on Skyline Drive. It was too cold to eat outside, as we had planned, but pulled over into one of the picnic areas, and had our picnic in the car, and just took in the quiet, not-quite-spring beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It was a very peaceful day, that I often look back on as one of the best dates we ever had. ;-)

On our first aniv. we went to the coast without our son (yep, we did it backwards!) We had a great weekend, and did all of the usual touristy things. On the last day my husband was all decked out in his floral shirt, his straw hat, camera and sun glasses-ready fora campy day of fun on the beach. We got to our car and realized that it had been broken into. It's really strange, but that's one of my best memories of him-

Four years ago, my husband and I almost lost ourselves in depression. It just about ended our marriage but thanks to a wonderful mother-in-law, counselor, doctor and of course the Good Lord our marriage survived and thrived. We will celebrate 25 years together in November and have 5 wonderful children, 1 son-in-law and will be first time grandparents in March '10. When I look back over what happened, I fall on my knees, thankful that I have the love, support and friendship of my husband, Allen. Love you Babycakes.

I have several wonderful Memories lol. The one that sticks with me the most is the day our daughter was born. Our Kaitie was born by c-section at almost 2 months early. My hubby, bless his soul, was all about being daddy!! When I went in to be prepped for the surgery they stuck me 3 times in the back before they got it and (yes it hurt!)I screamed out and i heard him say (through the door mind you, lol) that if they didnt let him through the door he was going to choke them out. (does not like anyone inflicting pain on me) They got it done and then let him in. He kept telling me it was okay and that he was going to keep an eye on everything. Through out it I could hear him asking questions. When Kaitie was born he followed her like a mama hen. he even counted the gaz/linens and utensils. (to make sure nothing was left inside) The nurse that was cleaning her up got an earful as well. He BARKED at her saying why did she have to be so rough with her. her comment was its okay they its over quickly, he BARKED again stating im her father and i say its not okay! She went to leave with her to take her to the nursery for all the things that follow and he wouldnt let her go anywhere with out him. he made her pause while he let me know that he was going to go with her, not about the let her out of his site lol. When I got to my room and asked for my baby they asked me if it was okay that the big guy with her could come to, because they didnt think they could separate them! (jokingly of course, they knew he was daddy) she hiccuped, cried, or anything and he was right on it. Even volunteered to change her diapers while we were in the hospital. He told me that a made a beautiful baby lol. He didnt really care to let anyone else hold his little girl. Being part of a such a huge moment in our lives and witnessing (aside from my own) his pure love for our daughter will be the memory that remains with me forever. Thank you for letting me share this with you.

My wife an I find ways to do little Get Aways all the time.
I am a big time Scout Leader so she joins me in camp often. As a matter of fact she went tent shopping with me and picked out a huge family sized model for when she wants to come along. It zips into separate rooms so we can be alone even in a Camp full of Scouts
