June is National Iced Tea Month

It's cool and refreshing, potentially good for your health, and almost universally loved all across the U.S. In fact, so popular is iced tea that the entire month of June has been set aside in celebration and recognition.

This year, during the Seventh Annual National Iced Tea Month, Americans are encouraged to drink a tall, cool, healthful glass of iced tea every day in June ... and what better time, as the mercury starts rising, the picnic basket comes out of storage, and the pool is officially opened for the season.

Iced tea was created in America nearly 100 years ago, so perhaps it's only fitting that ours is the only country where the majority of tea is enjoyed cold. In fact, iced tea was invented because visitors to the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair weren't interested in drinking hot tea on a hot day ... so quick-thinking English tea merchant Richard Blechynden added ice, and the rest is history.

Today, 80 percent of the 2.2 billion gallons of tea consumed by Americans each year is served over ice. And, during the "go-go 90s," convenient ready-to-drink iced teas skyrocketed in popularity, with sales soaring from $200 million in 1990 to $1.65 billion in 1999.

Yes, it's delicious. Yes, it's refreshing. But more importantly, numerous scientific studies suggest that tea -- including iced tea -- may provide certain health benefits. In particular:

  • Tea contains phytochemicals - naturally occurring plant compounds that may play a positive role in helping the body fight certain cancers, maintaining healthy blood cholesterol levels and supporting a healthy immune system.
  • Specific phytochemicals called flavonoids, found in both black and green tea, may have even stronger antioxidant properties than many fruits and vegetables ... and antioxidants are believed to neutralize free radicals, which scientists believe may play a role in the development of chronic illnesses such as some types of cancer and heart disease.
  • Tea contains approximately the same amount of fluoride as fluoridated water. Drinking tea may help support healthy tooth enamel.
  • Drinking tea plays a significant role in maintaining fluid balance, which is crucial for normal body function. Most adults need about two quarts of fluid daily, which should come from beverages and some fruits and vegetables.
"Tea is a smart choice ... the perfect brew for today's healthy lifestyle," advises Joe Simrany, President of the Tea Council of the USA. "We hope that Americans will embrace iced tea during National Iced Tea Month this June, and then continue enjoying both its refreshing flavor and its impressive health benefits 12 months a year."

Another Year Older...

So yesterday was my Birthday .. and fathers day .. so we had a nice day to celebrate both!

Will and I started off exchanging gifts in the morning ... I was excited to get a new set of Pink Dog Tags from the "kids" and a pink Filing cabinet! lol

Its funny when we are business women what lil business supplies/tools/furniture can make us so happy!

Next my sweet Hubby made me breakfast - Bacon and eggs and toast - very yummy!

Then we were ogg to get Mani/Pedi's - YES Both of us did! It was a great bonding experience as always .. hubby was a lil reluctant for the Mani but I convinced him it was a good idea :)

After that we noticed a carnival in a nearby parking lot .. not sure if you have these where you live but here in Colorado Springs we seem to have a carnival pop up anywhere that there is room enough to put a few rides and a few food carts! lol Anyway I immediately though "mmm funnel cake!" so we were off to have funnel cake! lol

The rest of the evening was kinda normal stuff.. went to Sam's Club to get some things we needed and then home to have some spaghetti .. then finished the night off watching a series we had somehow missed the first go round, Dead Like me, was a good show and its on instant watch for Netflix woohoo! lol

Anyway it was a nice day spent with the man I love and my Mom :) Great times!

A recent Purchase from the Beaded Branch!

I recently was perusing some of the shops in a Networking Group I am in (Sassy Sisters in Sales) and came across the cutest dang purse I have EVER seen! It is called a Bug bag or Cicada Bug Bag!

Flower Garden Bug Bag
Description: This dainty little bag is made from beautiful pink satin overlaid with a beautiful rayon print that is covered in pink roses. The drawstring is a white satiny cording. Measuring 8 1/2 inches x 4 inches, it's a perfect size for a small wallet, car keys, a cell phone and maybe one or two other small necessities.

The best story behind the bags I could find is this....

The Cicada, which emerges from the earth once every 17 years is the symbol for long life and metamorphosis and resurrection.

In Japan the geisha had a small bag that they carried the plectra(picks) for their samisen. They tucked these little bags into their obi. As is the way in Japan, this became an art form.

Here are a few more pics of the bag i purchased

This little bag is SO perfect when going to the Bar or to the salon!
All i take is my cell phone, Business card holder of course and my lil wallet!

Teri has much more than just these lil bags though! Here are a few other items you can find in her shop! But be sure to visit yourself to see everything!
